Summer at the Skills Centre

Completing Uni work over the summer and in need of support?

The Skills Centre has you covered! We’re open to all Hallam students: any level, any course.

Whether you’re working on resubmissions or aiming to get a head start on next academic year, we have a range of skills support available including webinars, forums and 1-1s. Book onto these via our website.

In addition, we have a number of extra sessions starting w/c 21st June that will help you to tie your academic studies with employability skills.

Take a look at what’s coming up and book on via the links below:
  • Monday 21st June, 1-2pm: Writing Yoga - Writing about yourself for self-promotion and personal branding. Book a place. Interactive online session with tips to encourage confident writing about yourself. We’ll look at writing for your personal brand on social media or LinkedIn, presenting your skills and experience for jobs, and tips for structuring a catchy personal profile for your CV header.

 

  • Monday 21st June, 3-4pm: Presentation Skills webinar. Book a place. 
    Want to learn how to deliver an effective presentation? This workshop will help you learn how to plan, structure and present with confidence.

 

  • Tuesday 22nd June, 12-1pm:  Self-compassion tips for personal productivity webinar. Book a place. 
    A 1-hr practical, interactive online session with tips to encourage self-management involving a more self-compassionate approach. We’ll discuss time management, developing healthy study habits and tips for managing stress that will support your studies. 

 

  • Wednesday 23rd June, 4-6pm: Virtual drop-ins. Join the waiting room. 
    Online drop-ins with expert advisors on academic writing, literature searching and referencing, digital skills and Maths and Stats, for instant answers to your assignment questions.

 

  • Thursday 24th June, 3-4pm – Literature Reviews webinar. Book a place.
    What does a literature review involve? This session offers a practical guide to planning and writing a successful literature review.

 

  • Friday 25th June, 12-1pm – Reflective Writing webinar. Book a place.
    What does it mean to be reflective? This workshop offers an introduction to the key principles of reflective writing, using frameworks to develop an effective reflective approach.

 

Can’t make the sessions? No problem! We have a full range of online study materials and recordings covering topics from academic writing to presentation skills.

Writing Gym (Level 7)
Are you ready to flex those finger muscles and bulk up your Masters dissertation writing?  Our Writing Gym has been created to help support Level 7 students through the dissertation process by providing a space for you to learn new approaches to writing, share ideas with others, and crucially do some writing!
 

Our next 5-week programme will take place on Mondays 3-4.30pm, starting June 28th 2021. View the calendar and book onto sessions via our website.
