The Big Read 2020

FAQs

What is the Hallam Big Read?

The Hallam Big Read is an initiative whereby a free copy of a selected book is made available to staff and students at Sheffield Hallam. This year the book is Natives by Akala. The Big Read is new to Hallam, but has been established at a number of UK universities for a while, and similar initiatives have been running in the US for several years. Evaluation of Big Read projects has concluded that, by creating a community through shared reading, students feel more welcome, settle in quickly and adjust to their new life at university.

How will the Big Read work this year?

We appreciate things are very different this year with most of us having to work or study from home. We have an eBook version available and are currently offering to post copies of the paperback to you. Please note postal orders may take longer during lockdown.

To request your copy, please follow the relevant link:

Are you still running any events for this years Big Read?

We will update the 'Get involed' section of this libguide with any activities taking place this year.

Is there a way I can provide feedback on the project?

Yes- we will be circulating online surveys to those who ordered a copy of the book towards the end of the year. If you have any feedback in the meantime please contact us:
