Archive of the Sheffield School of Art and library items too fragile/rare/precious for the shelves.

Dictionarium latinae lingust. Vol.3. (1561)

The oldest book in the University. This volume of a Latin dictionary was bound in 1547. We think the author is Ambrogio Calepino, an Italian Augustinian monk who was well-known as a lexicographer. His reknowned Latin dictionary was reprinted several times in the 16th century.

The Treasury of ornamental art by J.C. Robinson (1857)

This book documents pieces from the Museum of Ornamental Art, Marlborough House. The illustrations are remarkable in themself, but the book's value is enhanced as it was purchased and signed by Young Mitchell, one of the original Masters of the Sheffield School of Art.

The original, full-scale edition of Stubbs' masterpiece of anatomical drawing, this features beautiful examples of composition of the horse in great detail. It was ground-breaking for its time and informed anatomical knowledge for centuries to come.

Undermined? : Britain and the miners' strike by Martin Jenkinson, John Harris and John Sturrock (1994)

43 photographs, catalogues and captions originally forming an exhibition shown at The Crucible and then Kelham Island Museum in Sheffield. The images are both politically powerful and demonstrate great technical skill in black and white photography.
