Skills Centre What's On

About our session types

The Skills Centre can work with you to develop your academic writing and study skills while working remotely:

  • 1-1sA 30 minute session with a learning adviser for feedback and advice on how to develop your academic skills and writing. Available as phonecall or video chat appointments in Blackboard Collaborate.
  • Webinars: An interactive, online version of a workshop, with participation via the chat and voice features in Blackboard Collaborate.
  • Writing ForumsGain immediate feedback on your work and writing skills in a small online group with up to three other students and an Academic Learning Advisor.
  • Virtual Drop-ins: Online drop-ins with expert advisors on academic writing, literature searching and referencing, digital skills and Maths and Stats, for instant answers to your assignment questions.

Find out more about these different session types and how to register to book for sessions, or scroll down to see the forthcoming sessions and book a place.  Places must be booked on all sessions except the quick query drop-ins.  See more sessions and up-to-date availability in UniHub Appointments and Events.

You can also access our online study guides for in-depth information and resources on our core academic skills topics. For information on how to make the most of the library while working from home, visit the Hallam Library online guide.

Remote 1-1s

Please note: Students should book a maximum of one 1-1 appointment per week - this ensures that you have time to develop your work between appointments and gives other students a fair opportunity to access 1-1s.

For quick questions, you can attend our virtual drop-in session to talk to an academic skills advisor, every Wednesday from 4-6pm. There is no need to book: you can drop-in for a 15 minute 1-1 with an academic skills advisor, librarian, digital skills expert, or Maths and Stats advisor. Follow the link to join the drop-in: http://bit.ly/library-dropin

30 minute bookable 1-1s with an Academic Skills Adviser.  Some advisers offer both telephone appointments and online appointments, so you can choose when booking.  This list displays the next available 1-1s - you can find more sessions and up-to-date availability in UniHub.
