About our session types

The Skills Centre can work with you to develop your academic writing and study skills while working remotely:

  • Webinars: An interactive, online version of a workshop, with participation via the chat and voice features in Blackboard Collaborate.
  • Virtual Drop-ins: Online drop-ins with expert advisors on academic writing, literature searching and referencing, digital skills and Maths and Stats, for instant answers to your assignment questions.
  • Feedback SeminarsGain immediate feedback on your work and writing skills in a small group with up to three other students and an Academic Learning Advisor.
  • 1-1sA 30 minute session with a learning adviser for feedback and advice on how to develop your academic skills and writing. Available as phonecall or video chat appointments in Blackboard Collaborate.

Find out more about these different session types and how to register to book for sessions, or scroll down to see the forthcoming sessions and book a place.  Places must be booked on all sessions except the quick query drop-ins.  See more sessions and up-to-date availability in UniHub Appointments and Events.

You can also access our online study guides for in-depth information and resources on our core academic skills topics. For information on how to make the most of the library while working from home, visit the Hallam Library online guide.

Webinars

See below for forthcoming scheduled webinars. If you don't see the session topic you are interested in (and it can be worth checking the individual topic listings at busy times of year), you can also now login to access a selection of recorded presentations from the Skills Centre.

Remote 1-1s

These are online or telephone 30 minute bookable 1-1s with an Academic Skills Adviser.  You can find more sessions and up-to-date availability in UniHub. See also our On-campus 1-1 appointments.

Note: Students should book a maximum of one 1-1 appointment per week - this ensures that you have time to develop your work between appointments, and gives other students a fair opportunity to access 1-1s.

If you have a quick questions for an academic skills advisor, librarian, digital skills expert, or Maths and Stats advisor, our our virtual drop-ins are every Wednesday from 4-6pm and there is no need to book: Join at http://bit.ly/library-dropin
