Your SHUcard

Your SHUcard is your University ID and your library card.  With it you'll be able to

  • enter the library
  • borrow up to 5 books at a time
  • place a request on 1 book at a time
  • log on to Hallam's partner Blackboard page to find library resources

You will receive your SHUcard via your college during the first term of your course. Until you receive your SHUcard you can still visit Hallam library by bringing your college ID card and telling the staff on the library reception the name of your course.

The login details that you receive with your SHUcard let you login to Hallam's partner Blackboard page at http://www.shu.ac.uk/myhallam to find some library resources, check your borrowing record on "My library account" and allow you to place a reservation on one book title.  You will not be able to log into computers at Sheffield Hallam or use the majority of Hallam's electronic library resources. Please remember to activate your account when you receive your details, even if you do not think you will be coming onto campus. You will not be able to access the online resources until the account is activated.

Using AI in your work

Issues and questions around using AI in your assignments are becoming increasingly common. As a result, Sheffield Hallam have produced guidance to help you use AI effectively and ethically in your work.

Hallam Library Welcome

At the start of your course

At the start of your classes, you will receive a course induction from your tutor.  This will include detailed information about the course content and support available for you. You may find the following information useful as well.

Before you start your course

Welcome to the new academic year on your course, in collaboration with Sheffield Hallam University.  Please make use of the following resources before you start your classes this year.

Support during your course

Click on the 'Library Resources' tab at the top of the page for access to a selection of high-quality sources to use for your assignments.  This includes ProQuest Central, a leading multi-disciplinary online resource that you can use to access databases across all major subject areas.  A link to ProQuest Central has been added to your college VLE and your course leader will be able to advise you on where to find it.

Most students on Sheffield Hallam courses will use APA, although some courses will use other referencing styles.  Ask your course leader if you're not sure.  You can also use ProQuest RefWorks to manage your references.  Click on the 'Referencing' tab for help with citing and referencing, and to find out about RefWorks.

If you need to find out how to submit a request to repeat an assessment attempt, click on the 'Get Help' tab at the top of the page and scroll down to the 'Dealing with illness and difficult circumstances' box.
