Referencing at Hallam

Referencing is an important skill at university. You need to reference all your sources, including quotes, paraphrases, data, images, and diagrams. Accurate referencing can earn you marks, help you avoid plagiarism, and show good academic practice.

There are different referencing styles. Many courses at Sheffield Hallam recommend APA 7th edition, but always check with your course or module leader which style you should use.

The sections below provide more guidance.

I need to reference
something in APA

referencing style

Some subjects use a different referencing style, usually because that style is standard in the profession. See which other styles are used at Hallam.

I want to use RefWorks
or other tools

Referencing tools help you keep track of your sources and format citations and references. Everyone at Hallam can use a ProQuest RefWorks account, even after graduation.
