BMC Bloomberg Certificate

To get the Bloomberg ‘certificate of completion’, you need to work through all the e-learning courses in Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC). BMC consists of a series of interactive video-based courses and takes around 10 hours in total to complete. You don't have to do it all at once. It will remember how far you got, and restart from that point the next time you log in.

  • login to BMC here:
  • If you do not yet have a BMC account (tied to your university e-mail), you will need to register to create one (NOTE: you must use your Sheffield Hallam University e-mail address). This short video shows you how to register for a BMC account:

IMPORTANT NOTE: BMC should be free for Sheffield Hallam University students, so if you are asked for your credit card information you must email Bloomberg immediately at:  to prevent any unnecessary charges.

  • During the registration process you should select the option to “sign up as Learner”, and please say “No” when you are asked “Are you taking BMC as part of a group (e.g. university class or new hire group at a bank)?” (so you will not need to enter a class code).
  • To complete the registration process Bloomberg will send you an email confirmation. You must click on the link in the email to activate your BMC account.

After you have registered, each time you want to continue to work through the course you will need to:

  • log into BMC here:
  • click on the course you want to work on (e.g. Economic Indicators)
  • click to start, or resume, the relevant module (e.g. The Primacy of GDP)
  • to finish your session, click on your name (top right of screen) and select Log Out (BMC will remember how far you got, and will allow you to restart from that point the next time you log in)

Bloomberg Terminal access (if this is your first time)

If you've never used Bloomberg before, you will need to:

  • login to your BMC account (please see instructions for BMC Bloomberg Certificate above) at:
  • Click on Terminal Access and you will initially see the following message.

Terminal Access Screen

  • NOTE: if the Terminal Access tab does not appear at the top of your screen, please email Bloomberg at with your BMC account information, and they should be able to correct this.
  • You now need to wait for your account to be authorised for Terminal access. Please be patient, as it may take several days before your account is authorised. If you have been waiting for more than a week for your account to be authorised, please email:  (including details of which email address you used for registration).
  • When your account has been authorised the Terminal Access message will change as shown below. Please fill in your personal details to register for a Bloomberg username and password (NOTE: these will be different from, and in addition to, your BMC login details)
