Library Resources

As a student on a Sheffield Hallam-validated course, you can use Hallam's Library Online pages to get access to a wide range of online library resources including electronic books, journals, newspapers and specialist material such as maps.

Sheffield Hallam Library Online

Use the Library Search box in the Library Online to find books, journals and other types of information. You can search by topic, by the title of a book  journal or article, or by author.

Geography Subject Guide

The Geography, Environment and Planning subject guide has been put together by the subject librarian at Sheffield Hallam University Library. It collects together many excellent sources for geography and related subjects, including plentiful information on GIS systems and cartography relevant to your course.

You can find this subject guide, alongside many others, under the Subject Guides option in the Popular Links box on the top right of Library Online.

Support and guidance for Library resources and services

If you need help with using Library Search or any other resources on Library Online, there are several options available:

  • The tabs at the top of Library Online have more information about the Library and its services.
  • In the top corner of Library Online, you will see a tab for 24/7 Library Chat. Clicking on the tab will give you the options to either find existing guidance on a subject, or to speak via chat to a librarian. During weekdays, this will be Sheffield Hallam staff: at other time, this will be support from partner libraries.
  • The Contact Us page on Library Online also provides the option to contact the Library via chat, as well as options to contact the Sheffield Hallam main helpdesks via telephone or email. Any library issues the main helpdesks can not help with themselves will be passed to the Library so they can respond to you.

Support and guidance for academic skills

There is a range of support available for all the non-subject-based academic skills you might need in your work, such as writing and structuring essays, referencing your sources, time management and the like. You can access this support through the Essential Skills pages. The support available includes:
