London Met epacks

London Met epacks are produced by London Metropolitan University. They offer a range of online blended learning activities aimed at beginner and intermediate levels.

The following epacks are available:

  • French - Beginner levels 1 and 2, Intermediate level 1
  • German - Beginner level 1
  • Italian - Beginner levels 1 and 2
  • Spanish - Beginner levels 1 and 2, Intermediate level 1

You can access these by typing in Londonmet epacks into Library Search, or direct via this link  London Met epacks. In both cases you will be asked for your SHU username and password.

German language resources

  • About.com German language has a range of resources for learning German, including an excellent grammar guide.
  • Free Language German includes links to a variety of freely available German language resources aimed at beginners and more advanced learners.  It also includes a large number of podcasts.
  • Learn German online contains exercises for advanced language learners as well as beginners, particularly focussed on developing grammar skills.
  • Deutsche Welle is an online international news website, which has an integral language learning element.  It can be viewed in 30 different languages and also contains some TV and radio streaming.
  • Forum Wirtschaftdeutsch is a German language resource with a business and economics focus.

Online newspapers via Nexis

You can access many foreign newspapers electronically by using the database Nexis. You can access Nexis via the  A-Z List of Databases on the Library Gateway.
