This database is published by the American Psychological Associations and provides comprehensive indexing and abstracts of the international psychological literature from the 1800s to the present. Documents indexed include journals, articles, books, dissertations and more. 90% of the 3,000+ titles indexed in APA PsycINFO® are peer-reviewed.

Multidisciplinary databases

Web of Science provides access to a collection of databases. The default search is of the Web of Science Core Collection, which includes the Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index, Arts & Humanities Citation Index, Conference Proceedings Citation Index and Emerging Sources Citation Index. This enables you to search scholarly journals, books and proceedings in the sciences, social sciences, and arts and humanities and navigate the citation network.
By clicking on the drop-down menu next to ‘Search in:’ you can choose to search other databases: BIOSIS Citation Index (1969-2008), KCI-Korean Journal Database, Medline, Preprint Citation Index and SciELO Citation Index.
SCOPUS This link opens in a new window
Scopus is a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary abstract and database curated by subject matter experts. Scopus is also a citation index, which means that the records in the database contain information on citations made in that publication and it links that information so you can identify which publications have cited that one, and how many times a publication has been cited.
Dimensions This link opens in a new window
A very large multi-disciplinary database which enables you to search millions of articles, proceedings, preprints, books and chapters. Full text searching is possible for 70% of the publications. Dimensions can also be used to gain insight into research impact and attention through citations and altmetrics and to see analytical views of your search results. Please note that only the publications search is available.

Science Direct
ScienceDirect provides journal articles and ebooks on the physics, engineering, mathematics, life sciences, health, computing and social sciences. Articles and ebook chapters can be saved and kept as PDFs.

The default search includes both ebooks and journal articles. You can use filters in your results to select between them: alternatively, you can use the search tab. The search tab will also enable you to confine your search to only the material to which we have subscribed access.Search results for ebooks are at chapter level.

Cinahl Complete with Full Text, the authoritative bibliographic database for nursing and allied health, provides full text for 1350 journals. alternative link

PubMed is a key Allied Health database, with coverage from the 1950's on. It's content covers all Health subjects and some of the content is Open Access and free to view.
PubMed is a search tool to access citations, abstracts and links to full-text journals at web sites of participating publishers. Including over 15 million citations from journals and covers 4,800 biomedical science journals.

PMC contains links to nearly 2 million articles and all are peer reviewed and free to view.

PubMed Central (PMC) is produced by the National Library of Medicine and provides biomedical and life sciences information. The archive also contains links to other scientific databases and book reviews.

PTSDpubs. This database, formerly called PILOTS, is produced by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs National Center for PTSD. The database provides citations and abstracts to the worldwide literature on PTSD and other psychological effects of trauma.
SPORTDiscus This link opens in a new window
This database covers sport and related disciplines. It is useful for such subjects as injury management and rehabilitation from injury. It includes both primary and secondary research, peer-review articles and other research methodologies.
It has over 1,500,000 records, including journal articles, books, dissertations and theses. In some cases coverage goes back to 1939.
An increasing percentage of the material is full text.

The database covers all aspects of the study of language including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. Coverage is also given to various fields of linguistics including descriptive, historical, comparative, theoretical, and geographical linguistics.

MLA International Bibliography contains citations of critical works on literature, langauge, linguistics and folklore. It also covers natural and inverted languages.
Includes references to journal articles, books, chapters in books, and abstracts for some dissertations. (There are no abstracts available for records in this database.)

Communication Abstracts is a comprehensive source of information about communication-related articles, reports, papers, and books from a variety of publishers, research institutions, and information sources.

Index and abstracts for health, social services, psychology, criminology, sociology, economics, politics, race relations and education. Currently contains over 312,000 records from 650 journals in 16 different countries, including the UK and US. Coverage is from 1987 onwards. Updated monthly, with more than 1500 records added per update.
ProQuest Social Sciences Premium Collection This link opens in a new window
This collection provides access to databases covering the international literature in the social sciences, including politics, sociology, social services, anthropology, criminology and education. Featured databases include IBSS, PAIS and Sociological Abstracts. Together, they provide abstracts, indexing and full text coverage of journal articles, books, book chapters, dissertations, working papers and more, including deep indexing and full text from over 1000 important social science journals.

Studies on Women and Gender Abstracts (SWA) is an international abstracting service designed to meet the information needs of all those working, teaching, studying or researching into any of the main areas of women's studies. Provides abstracts for journal articles and books.
Theoretical and empirical materials are abstracted with a focus on the following topic areas: education, employment, women in the family and community, medicine and health, female sex and gender role socialisation, social policy, social psychology of women, female culture, media treatment of women, biography, literary criticism, historical studies. Coverage is international from 1995.

A database of the international literature in sociology and the social and behavioural sciences, it provides abstracts of journal articles and citations to book reviews drawn from over 1,809 serials publications, and also provides abstracts of books, book chapters, dissertations, and conference papers.
Records added since 1963 contain in-depth and non-evaluative abstracts of journal articles. Many records from key journals in sociology, published since 2001, also include the references cited in the bibliography of the source article. Each individual reference may also have links to an abstract and/or to other papers that cite that reference; these links increase the possibility of finding more potentially relevant articles. These references are linked both within Sociological Abstracts and across other social science databases available on Proquest.
