Making the most of your Library on and off-campus

Click & Collect

Click & Collect service for students and staff

You can request items via Library Search to collect from Adsetts and Collegiate Libraries. Collection times are available  to book Monday - Friday between 9am - 5pm.

If there's an ebook available you may want to use that while we are processing your click & collect. For unavailable books, journals and other media use the Resources on Request form.

Please don't make a journey to the library before following the instructions below and waiting to receive your email with instructions to make a booking. You will receive an email for each request you make. If you have requested multiple items, please book one appointment to collect them all at the same time whenever possible.

When your book is ready to collect you will receive an email that will include:

  • a link for you to book a collection time including days/times
  • where to collect the items from
  • university guidance on social distancing
  • a reminder to bring your SHUcard

Please don't make a journey to collect an item until you have received an email to say your items are available to collect. You will then be sent a link to book an appointment to arrange a time. You will receive an email for each request you make.  If you have requested multiple items, please book one appointment to collect them all at the same time whenever possible.

We have a reduced number of library staff on-campus so please bear with us while we adapt and develop our services. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to support your learning, teaching and research

We'll continue to keep you updated on any further reintroduction of our services and any changes as new guidance becomes available. If you have any queries in the meantime, please get in touch. We will also continue to offer online services during this period.

Returning items - current students

To ensure the safety of staff and students we are using a booking system for  you to return items.

Please follow the links below to view available times and book your appointment. Login to Unihub - your university username and password will be required. If it's the first time you've used Unihub you will need to fill in a careers questionnaire before you can access the appointments - this applies to staff too and you only have to do this once:

You will be sent instructions about where to go in the confirmation emails received when making a booking.

Returning items - recent graduates

If you have completed your course and have items on your Library Account, you can still return these items.

  • If you are able to visit either Adsetts or Collegiate Libraries safely, please follow the guidance in the Returning items - Current students section above
  • If you are not able to visit either Adsetts or Collegiate Libraries safely, please complete this online form

Click & Collect and returning items FAQ

How long does click & collect take?

Available books. If the books are available, we will look for them the next working day after you have made your request. You will be notified by email when books are ready to collect and we will ask you to make an appointment. If for any reason this may take a bit longer we will let you know.

Books currently on loan. If the book(s) you request are on loan to someone else this will take longer. Books out on loan will need to be recalled so how long it takes for them to be available will depend on how quickly the books are returned to the library. Once books are returned we then have to quarantine them for 72 hours before making them available for you to collect.

If you need access to something urgently we recommend you check Library Search to see if it's available online - this is the quickest way to access library resources.

Why do I have to make an appointment to collect and return books?

For the safety of students and staff we have an appointment service in place for you to collect and return books. This allows us to safely manage the number of people in the area at any one time and to comply with social distancing guidance.

I have returned my books why are they still showing on my account?

Following Public Health England guidance we need to quarantine books for 72 hours so they will remain on your account during this time.  Please check My Library Account after 3 days to check that the books have been returned from your account.

I'm self-isolating and can't return the books I've borrowed or can no longer make my appointment to collect books. What can I do?

If you need to return a book because it has been requested by another library user then please contact us. If you have borrowed books and they are not requested by someone else then these will automatically renew each week.

If you have requested a book which you are unable to collect please contact us and we will see if we can offer you any online alternatives.

I'm shielding, can I still use click & collect?

Yes, please contact us and we'll let you know how this will work.

Can somebody else collect the books on my behalf?

Yes, but we will need to know in advance and who it will be. Please contact us if you want to do this.

How do I cancel a request?

Please contact us and let us know if you no longer need a book you have requested. Books are issued to your library account as soon as we have located them so you are unable to cancel a request yourself. Once you let us know that you want to cancel your request we will remove the book(s) from your account.

I'm unable to collect my items within 5 days - can I extend the pick up time?

Due to the heavy demand of the click and collect service we are unable to extend the amount of time you have to collect your items. As books can be recalled by other users it is in your best interest to arrange an appointment to collect them as soon as the book is ready so that you can have it for the maximum amount of time before you may have to return it.

I can't find an appointment to collect at a time I can make

Please contact us and we will do our best to arrange a time that is convenient for you.

Why can't I browse the bookshelves or find a book myself?

Public Health England guidance for libraries is that all books should be quarantined for 72 hours between each use, so it is not safe to allow you to browse the shelves. You can borrow books using our Click and Collect service. And you can browse the shelves online using Library Search.
