EBSCOhost Databases: New Look and New Features

Your saved searches

If you have saved any searches to your MyEBSCO account in an EBSCOhost database on the old interface, then these saved searches should automatically migrate across when you login to MyEBSCO on the new interface.

If your saved searches don't automatically transfer over to the new interface, try logging out of MyEBSCO and logging back in again to trigger the process.

More information about the migration of saved searches onto to the new interface can be found at the following link: Migration of your saved searches from the Saved Searches folder (Scroll down to the third heading on this page for the information about saved searches.)

After the switchover to the new interface, you can also download a spreadsheet with your old Saved Searches, as explained here: Downloading your data after the switchover

Your custom folders

If you have created custom folders in the old EBSCOhost interface (i.e. folders within an EBSCO database that you have given personalised names), it is important that you export the contents of your custom folders before the interface switchover on 7th July. Your custom folders and the items within them will not transfer over to the new EBSCOhost interface.

To check whether you have custom folders in EBSCOhost, go to an EBSCOhost database and sign in to your MyEBSCO account. Click ‘Folder’ in the blue bar along the top of the screen. If you have any custom folders, they will appear under ‘My Custom’ on the left of the screen.

You can export articles from a folder in the old EBSCO interface to RefWorks or another reference management platform, using the following process:

  • Click on the folder name, then click Articles.
  • Click Export in the panel to the right of the screen.
  • Select the format which you would like to export the citations in, and click Save.

Screenshots of the step-by-step process for exporting your custom folders from EBSCOhost can be found in the box below: Exporting Custom Folders - process screenshots

If you do not export the contents of your custom folders before the switchover date, you will still be able to download the data from your custom folders. However, after 7th July, you will only be able to access this data in the form of a spreadsheet that cannot be easily inputted into a reference management tool. This is not something we have control over at SHU, since it is determined externally by EBSCO.

1. Check if you have custom folders in EBSCOhost

2. Click on the folder name and select Articles.

You can export articles from a folder in the old EBSCO interface to RefWorks or another reference management platform, using the following process. Click on the folder name, then click Articles.

3. Click Export in the panel to the right of the screen.

4. Select the format which you would like to export the citations in, and click Save.

Depending on the selected format, this will either open a new tab to export the citations directly or will open a new window to save the citations in a format that you will be able to import into your reference manager.

Downloading your data after the switchover

After the switchover on 7th July, you will be able to download a report of the data that you had in your MyEBSCO account in the previous interface. This report will include information about the items you had saved in your custom folders, as well as the details of your saved searches and alerts. This report of previous folders can be requested until 31st December 2025.

However, this report will be in the form of a spreadsheet that cannot be easily inputted into a reference management tool. This is not something we have control over at SHU, since it is determined externally by EBSCO.

The process for downloading a report of your data after switching over to the new interface is described in this article: How can I download the data from MyEBSCO custom folders in the classic EBSCO interfaces?
