Develop your skills and get paid: become an online Student Peer Mentor!

by Nick Russell on 2021-08-22T10:00:00+01:00 in Library, Skills | 0 Comments

Do you want to support other students, develop your skills and earn an income doing it? We are looking for students going into their final year (Level 6) or post graduate study (who completed their undergrad at Hallam) with strong communication skills who want to support others.

As a Student Peer Mentor your role will be to provide “help, not answers” and you will receive training on how to do this. Your support is provided online through a new digital platform from Studiosity so you will work from the comfort of your own home at times that suit you.

As a mentor you will:

  • Be paid £10.65 per hour of support provided.
  • Set your own availability between 12 noon and 10pm each day with all work being done remotely.
  • Receive comprehensive training and have access to ongoing support from senior Studiosity mentors.
  • Gain experience for you CV and develop your interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Open up opportunities to work for Studiosity after you graduate.
  • Have the opportunity to support other students.

Find out more in the Mentor Applicants Guide.

Please note: We are still looking for new mentors from most courses but your application may not be successful if three or more mentors from your course have already been recruited.

Where do I sign up?

Step 1. Log into MyHallam and click the “Get Started” button in the Studiosity box.

Step 2. Once you have logged into Studiosity enter your phone number in the “Become a Student Mentor” box and click on the “Apply now” button.

Step 3. You will then need to complete a short form and screening test, before uploading ID verification documents.  You will also need to upload a screenshot of your Level 4 module results (instructions about how to do this are at the end of this email). You will then receive an email within a few weeks to confirm if your application has been successful.

Step 4. On Monday 6th September (or after depending on when you apply) you will be asked to sign your contract. You will then be sent instructions on how to complete a set of online induction and training modules, for which you will be paid. You will then receive an email with information about your payments and policies, and you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

And that’s it! You will then be ready to start helping other Sheffield Hallam University students succeed with their studies.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,

The Skills Team
