Effective Reading

Our top tips and advice on getting the most from your reading, taking effective notes from journal article and identifying links between sources.

Taking notes from your reading

Using a critical appraisal grid for your notetaking is an excellent way of helping to keep track of everything you've read and organising your notes. It can also speed up the reading process for journal articles as you start to memorise the information you're looking for each time you read.

Another benefit of adopting this approach is that by evaluating all of your reading on the same criteria, it will be much easier to identify similarities and differences between your readings, which is an important part of critical writing.
