Library Chat

You can ask us a quick question on Library Chat, available through Library Online at any time of the day, any day of the year. 

Drop-in Sessions

You can also access support for quick questions by attending one of our weekly drop-in sessions ran every Wednesday 4-5:30pm. You do not need to book onto the session. As well as support for finding information and referencing, you can also access help from academic skills, maths and statistics, as well as digital skills advisors.

To help you apply your search skills, in terms of completing your research and writing your assignments, the Skills Centre can help you to develop your confidence and skills.

Essential Skills for Academic Success

You can start by taking the Essential Skills for Academic Success; online course and come up with your own skills development plan.

Explore development opportunities

Then, you can explore the development opportunities open to all students, including:

  • Webinars and online bootcamps on over 20 academic skills topics
  • 1 to 1 appointments and weekly drop-ins
  • Online skill guides and e-modules to support your independent study. 

Skills guides include:

  • Introduction to Academic Writing. Covers the key skills for writing at university level, including style, structure and how to develop your academic voice.
  • Effective Reading. Top tips and advice on getting the most from your reading, taking effective notes from journal articles and identifying links between sources.
  • Effective Notetaking. Strategies and templates for taking effective notes in lectures and from your reading.
