Reflective Writing

This online study guide covers the key features of reflective writing.

What is reflective writing?

In most instances, when students are asked to write a reflective assignment, they are usually being asked to analyse experiences in order to learn.

To achieve this, students are usually expected to include the following 3 elements in their essay. Check your brief to see if you will be assessed on these three areas too.

  1. Link and compare your experiences to literature.
  2. Question your analysis of the experience (being critical).
  3. Make suggestions for the future.
