The Big Read 2021-22

An Afternoon with Prof. Mark Maslin

In the newly-renovated Atrium at City Campus, we hosted:

  • ‘The Big Read Aloud’ - a reading performance by some acting and performance students;
  • a guest talk and book signing with Professor Mark Maslin;
  • ‘How to Save Our Planet in 90 Seconds’ -  a screening of 90-second films made by Level 5 Acting and Performance students.

The Big Read Aloud

Level 5 Acting and Performance students read out extracts from Prof. Mark Maslin’s book in the Atrium, and even the author himself joined them for a page or two!

Later in the day, Prof. Mark Maslin delivered a lecture on the climate emergency and what we as individuals can do to affect positive change. After an insightful and engaging lecture, Prof. Maslin led in a lively Q & A with the audience.

After this, in the Atrium, the author signed copies of the book. Meanwhile, there was an opportunity for conversation about How to Save our Planet and our own plans for changes we would like to make.

Following the book signing and refreshments, Level 5 Acting and Performance students showcased a screening of short films that they had created. These exciting productions were inspired by what the students had taken away from the book. It was lovely to see such creativity from our students.
