The Black Maternity Experiences Survey - A Nationwide Study Of Black Women’s Experiences Of Maternity Services In The United Kingdom (2022)
Inequalities in maternal death rates between Black women and White women in the UK have been
documented for many years, and it is thanks to the work of Five X More and other advocates that tackling
this disparity is now recognised as a priority.
A national cohort study and confidential enquiry to investigate ethnic disparities in maternal mortality (2022)
Ethnic disparities in maternal mortality were first documented in the UK in the early 2000s but are known to be widening. This project aimed to describe the women who died in the UK during or up to a year after the end of pregnancy, to compare the quality of care received by women from different aggregated ethnic groups, and to identify any structural or cultural biases or discrimination affecting their care.
Nursing Narratives: Racism and the Pandemic
In this inter-disciplinary research project, academics from Sheffield Hallam University collaborated with internationally renowned documentary film collective Migrant Media to study the impact of racism on BME nurses and care workers during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The NHS Race & Health Observatory is an independent body set up by the NHS which works to identify and tackle ethnic inequalities in healthcare by facilitating research and making health policy recommendations.
