Reading Lists Online Accessibility Statement

The Reading Lists Online service is managed by the Library at Sheffield Hallam University. We use a system called Talis Aspire to provide the service.

Accessible Reading

There are a range of tools available to make your learning materials more accessible.  These include:

Book onto an Accessible Reading session

The Assistive Technology Team run weekly sessions on Accessible Reading which you can book onto to help with using the tools listed above.

eBook Platforms

You can customise the accessibility options when reading eBooks and journals to support your individual reading requirements. Please see below for examples of how you can do this with the VLeBooks, Ebook Central and Bibliu eBook platforms.

VLeBooks

The VLeBooks platform has a 'Edit Accessibility Settings' menu where you can chose from the following features: 

  • Large Font
  • High Contrast
  • Highlight links in yellow
  • Underline Links
  • Greyscale Colour mode
  • Dyslexic friendly font
  • Prevent pop-up auto close

Ebook Central

You can use the profile settings of Ebook Central to change the accessibility settings, including:

  • Enabling/disabling 'Text Only Mode'
  • 'OpenDyslexia' typeface

BibliU

You can modify the display options in Bibliu to match your personal preferences.  Use the icons in the top right corner of the screen to: 

  • Change text size, text style, margins and mode.
  • Read read text aloud.

Digitised readings

If your reading list contains digitised readings, then they will open in a fully accessible format in Kortext e-reader.
