Reading Lists Online: A Student Guide

Additional features in your reading lists

There are some features in your reading lists to help manage your time and plan your reading. Here you will find out how to:

  • Set reading intentions for specific items
  • Add personal notes to your reading lists

Setting reading intentions

Setting up reading intentions on a reading list is a great way to help organise your reading for a module. Your reading intentions are private to your account and will not be shown to other users.

To do this, click on the circle on the right side of the reading list item. You can mark an item on a reading list as: ‘undecided’, ‘will read’, ‘reading now’, ‘have read’ and ‘won’t read’. You can then also use the filter function at the top of the list to only show items marked with a particular intention.

You could use this, for example, when wanting to filter out all the items you do not intend on reading, to make a long list less overwhelming. You could also filter to ‘have read’, and then use the referencing function explained in the next section below to produce a reference list of all of your reading.

Adding personal notes to your reading lists

You can make personal notes on reading list items to write down anything you may want to remember. Notes are private to your account and will not be shown to other users.

To add a note to a item on a reading list, select the three dots next to the item and select 'Personal Note'. Enter the note within the textbox and then select 'save'. You can also edit and delete the note later.

If you need to find certain items in a list you have written notes for, you can use the filter at the top of the list to only show items with notes. You can also access your notes by going to your profile on Reading Lists Online.
