Warm-up Activity: Challenges around EEDI

As part of the morning warm-up, participants were asked to reflect on challenges faced in Higher and Further Education related to ensuring our teaching practice is inclusive. The challenges attendees recorded on post-it notes were:

Activity 1: Student Profiles

In the first afternoon activity, each group of attendees was given a profile of a hypothetical student, created by SHU Library Student Partners based on their own experiences. After reading their student profile, each group discussed:

  • Challenges faced by this student
  • How might this student respond to these challenges?
  • What support might this student benefit from?

Activity 2: Reflections on Past, Present, and Future

In the second afternoon activity, attendees discussed their reflections on the following questions:

  1. What approaches have been practiced at your institution in the past around equality, diversity, and inclusion in library/skills teaching?
  2. What are you and your colleagues currently doing in relation to inclusive teaching?
  3. What new ideas / approaches could you implement in future? Have today’s presentations and discussions inspired any actions you could take?
