I want to use RefWorks or other tools

Other reference management software

Other reference management tools are available and, while we support ProQuest RefWorks, you are free to use any tools you find helpful. Note: these alternatives are NOT supported at Sheffield Hallam University. Many reference management tools have web-based versions and versions that can be installed on your own devices.  Only web-based versions can be used on SHU devices.

Microsoft Word referencing tool

APA 7th is not available in the Microsoft Word referencing tool.  For that reason, we recommend that you consider using ProQuest RefWorks. ProQuest RefWorks has Add-ins for Word which allows you to work in a similar way to the Word referencing tool.
You might be able to use Microsoft Word referencing tool with other styles though.

Mendeley is a free reference manager and academic social network with web-based, desktop and mobile versions. You can sync your library between these different versions and across different computers. It is compatible with Word, OpenOffice, and BibTex.

Help is available from Mendeley:

Zotero is a tool that helps you collect, manage and cite research sources.  It is a free Firefox browser add-on and a standalone program that works with Windows, Mac, or Linux systems. Zotero also works with Chrome and Safari, but note it does not work with Internet Explorer.

Legacy RefWorks

RefWorks (Classic/Legacy)

Legacy RefWorks will be upgraded to ProQuest RefWorks on June 20 2023.

If you are currently using Legacy RefWorks you can transfer your references and folder structure to a Proquest RefWorks account.   If you have multiple Legacy RefWorks accounts, these can be migrated to separate 'Projects' in a Proquest RefWorks account.

Existing ProQuest RefWorks accounts will not be affected.
