Have you just started at Hallam? Or are you coming back for another year? Have a look at How to Search and it'll give you a helping hand to find resources for your work. There's some information about other university services you can use as well. Don't worry if you're not quite sure whether you get it. There are videos and interactive quizzes so you can check your understanding  along the way.

Find the resources you need

At Sheffield Hallam, we offer a huge number of excellent information resources and search tools to help you with your assignments and research.

The Library brings together all of these resources and will guide you in finding and using the resources you need, whatever your level of study.

Library Search

The first search box you will see is Library Search, which can find results from our book collection, our full text journals and many other sources, and return them in one integrated list that can be refined to show just the kind of resource you need.

Click on the Library Search tab above for more information.

Subject Guides

We have on the Library site a link to our Subject Guides, which are designed to help you find and use specific academic resources that may not be covered by Library Search.

You'll find information regarding books, eBooks, and specific journals that you should be using.  We've also put handy RSS feeds giving up-to-date and relevant information for your subjects.

Find your reading lists

Which browsers can I use?

  • Internet Explorer - 11 and above
  • Firefox
  • Safari
  • Chrome

Some people have encountered problems using Library Search in Microsoft Edge, so we recommend using an alternative browser.

Additional search tools

Databases
We've crafted an A to Z list of the databases and resources we have access to, so if you know your Mintel from your Fame, this is the list for you.

Google Scholar
Googling in an academic way is made easier by using Google Scholar.  It will restrict results to more academic sources and, if you log in to MyHallam first, it will help you find the full text.
